FRESHWATER FISHING: Very good conditions on most rivers throughout the north coast region. Sockeye has been very good on the Skeena River with Chinook Salmon now slowing down. Report:

KITIMAT FISHING REPORT - Aug 15 - Aug 22, 2010 SALTWATER FISHING: The heat wave continues here on the west coast of Canada and fishing could not be any better. We have been keeping our guests very busy with coho salmon, halibut, lingcod, rockfish, crabbing and just about anything else that are hitting the baits! All regions we have been fishing are producing very good numbers and coolers have been coming home full of tasty seafoods for our guests. Chinook salmon has slowed down now and we will soon see an end to another fantastic season for them. Large northern coho salmon are now throughout our coastal waters and are fishing very well with anchovy, small spoons and assorted colours of plastic hootchies (green and blacks - preferred). We are now back to fishing the river systems for the remainder of the coho salmon season as there are good numbers now in most systems.

Kitimat BC Fishing Report

Summary:

SALTWATER FISHING: Fantastic fishing conditions still continue here on the north coast of British Columbia. Weather is very warm and we have not seen rain for quite some time (although needed for river conditions). Outside waters have been tough to get to as wind has been a factor for more than a month. FRESHWATER FISHING: Very good conditions on most rivers throughout the north coast region. Sockeye has been very good on the Skeena River watershed as has been the Chinook fishing. Summer run steelhead and coho salmon are now entering the mainstream Skeena River and tributaries. Kitimat River low and fishing fair for Chum and Coho salmon.

Report:

KITIMAT FISHING REPORT - July 25 - July 31, 2010 SALTWATER FISHING: Extremely good conditions for us here on the north coast over the past week. Hot temperatures and incredible salmon and bottom fishing for our guests. Coho Salmon has been very good along the outer coastal waters with a few good Chinooks being boated as well. Coho have been fishing well at a bit lower depth than usual as surface temperatures on the ocean are up a few degrees. Usual baits such as anchovy and hootchies are working well. Pink Salmon numbers are low on the north coast so catch ratio is down for them. bottom Fishing continues to be very good with excellent catches of Lingcod, Black Cod and other Rockfish. Halibut fishing is good with plenty of nice size chicken halibut being boated by our guest's. FRESHWATER FISHING: Skeena river and tributaries are fishing very well with sockeye, pink salmon, chinook salmon, coho and steelhead throughout the system. Kitimat River is low and fishing fair to good for chum salmon. A few coho salmon are now entering the system but most fishers are heading out on the ocean for good catch numbers. Mid August should see better numbers of coho in the system and provide better fishing then. Popping light marabou jigs for coho continues to grow here in the north coast as more and more new comers are learning this fine tactic. Reminder - Bait ban continues on the Kitimat until September 1st. Fly fishing for coho salmon is ideal and is an excellent way to target these species.

Chinook and Coho Salmon Fishing

submitted by Nautical West 2010-07-28

Summary:

SALTWATER FISHING: Great weather, fantastic fishing and good times we have been having with our guests over the past week. Good Chinook fishing still on the coastal waters with coho salmon now filling up many coolers. good halibut and ground fishing continues.

Report:

KITIMAT FISHING REPORT - July 11 - July 17, 2010 Guests have been very busy with us over the past few weeks landing a good number of chinook, coho and pink salmon along with fantastic catches of lingcod, rockfish, halibut and crab. This time of year there are plenty of salmon along the coast of British Columbia and always provides guests with full coolers and great fishing action. We have had the pleasure of fishing with many new guests this year that have never experience fishing like we offer here on the north coast of BC. Our unique location enables us to provide top quality fishing on both the coastal rivers and one of British Columbia's best fishing destinations the douglas channel and outer islands. Our recent guests just experienced the best show ever with several Humpback Whales coming within 15 feet of our vessel feeding on baitfish. New video posting of their experience will be coming soon to the podcast page so check back shortly. Thanks again to all who fished with us over the past few weeks and enjoy the remainder of you summer holidays.

Kitimat Fishing report

submitted by Todd Haynes 2010-06-20

Summary:

SALTWATER FISHING: Chinook fishing has been sporadic over the past week. Weather conditions have been good to excellent. Afternoon winds in the region are terrible and are blowing 20 - 25 knots across most of the north coast waters. Bottom fishing for Halibut and Cod has been very good. FRESHWATER FISHING: Kitimat River is fishing very well and the Skeena River regional waters are clearing and chinook fishing is just heating up.

Report:

KITIMAT FISHING REPORT - June 13 - June 19, 2010: Chinook Salmon fishing has been steady over the past week. Fresh baits such as anchovy and herring are top choice. Plug-cut or trolled is working very well with long leaders. The Kitimat Harbour has been slow over the past week. Outer coastal waters have been fishing well as chinooks are returning and feeding around the outer islands. Pinks and Coho are now showing on the outer waters as well and will continue to provide great action for the next few months. Bottom fishing has been great for many anglers over the past week with everyone limiting out on Halibut, Cod, Dungeness and King crabbing has been very good over the last few weeks. The Kitimat River and Skeena River waters are fishing very good now for Chinook Salmon. Over the last week we had the pleasure of spey fishing with our guests Peter Castellanos and Wilson Jaeggli. These guys provided us loads of good laughs and some hard core spey fishing. Peter Castellanos is father of those crazy fishing brothers the Boise Boys you see on YouTube. I would like to thank both Peter and Wilson for a great couple of days on the river and a reminder to Wilson to never let your guide test drive your spey rig as he may just hook up a fish or two!
